Did ‘PS 2’ live up to expectations? Here are the audience’s first reactions

Ponniyin Selvan was one of the biggest hits of Indian cinema last year. The franchise produced by Mani Ratnam is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name, which gained immense popularity among the Tamil people. Ponniyin Selvan was a film that the director, who has previously given great experiences to the audience on the big screen, has described as his dream project. The first part became a success by gaining tremendous word of mouth publicity as it was able to validate the huge pre-release hype received by adding a long cast. Now the second part of the much awaited film has hit the theatres.

The first shows in Tamil Nadu start at 9 am as there is no government sanction for early morning shows. But in places including Kerala, the first shows started at 5 and 6 am in the main centres. In the US, the first shows started at 1.30 am IST. Now the first reactions of the film have hit Twitter. The film received generally positive reviews from audiences and reviewers.

(Tamil | 2023) – THEATER!

Opening scene 15 Great Minutes. Nandini – face off Karikalan is a highlight. Chiyaan scores. Karthi, AishR gud. JR supports. Music blends very well. Fantastic Artwork. Slow Speed. Although there are not many highlights, it is attractive. Period Drama NEAT! pic.twitter.com/swMEL20453

Like the first part, Mani Ratnam narrates the story in PS2 without rushing and there is not even a bad character, said the Twitter handle Moviecro. Moviecro also points out that Mani Ratnam’s sincere effort to do justice to Kalki’s point of view is visible in the film. According to reviewer CK Review, the first 15 minutes of the film are amazing. The highlight of the film is the Nandini-Karikalan clash. Vikram scores. Karthi and Aishwarya Rai are good. Jayam Ravi supports. The music is going well. Excellent art direction. Telling stories slowly. A film that makes you want to watch it, even if it doesn’t have many thrilling moments. A neat period drama, said CK Review’s tweet.

The first half takes it up a notch. Drama intensifies. Not a single character was wasted or compromised.

The pace of the reporting is not rushed as more knots develop.

Another viewer wrote on Twitter that this film is the pride of Indian cinema. He has also tweeted from the Kuskitala V6 account that this is a better film than Baahubali 2. The film received an average review from Venky Reviews, a handle that reviews Indian films from US premieres. PS 2 is a period drama that works on many counts and is an overall satisfying experience. The film has good drama in most parts along with excellent art direction and songs. But CK Reviews also notes that the rhythm of the film is subdued at certain times. And that he could have edited it a little tighter.
