[Moscow, 5th Reuters]-Finland has been confiscated by the European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia, and has seized nearly 1,000 freight cars from Russian companies.

According to a letter dated June 6 sent by the Russian Railways to the Ministry of Transport, the state-owned railway company VR has reduced the number of railways in Finland following the EU’s embargo on Russian coal in April. A bailiff seized 865 cars from Russia.

The Finnish executive office has told Reuters that it has frozen at least € 82 million in assets of dozens of individuals and corporations in Russia and Belarus, including shipping companies, to comply with EU sanctions.

A VR spokeswoman confirmed that there are currently around 800 sanctioned freight vehicles in Finland. He said he would aim to return the unconfiscated vehicles to Russia as soon as possible.

In addition to the vehicles of companies subject to EU sanctions, the vehicles seized are vehicles of companies subject to sanctions by shareholders and abandoning management rights.
