Former Champion Paul Butler Praises Naoya Inoue’s Unparalleled Skill and Predicts Victory in Upcoming Match

Former WBO world bantamweight champion, Paul Butler (34), recently spoke about former unified world bantamweight champion, Naoya Inoue (30), according to British boxing media outlet “British Boxing News” (WEB version) on July 12, 2023.

Inoue is set to face WBC/WBO super bantamweight champion, Stephen Fulton (28), on July 25 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo. This fight marks a significant moment as it brings together two reigning champions in the super bantamweight division. With both Inoue and Fulton having dominated their respective divisions, this match is generating global interest.

As various opinions and predictions abound in the boxing world, Paul Butler, drawing from his personal experience, referred to Inoue as a “monster” in the local British boxing media. Butler faced Inoue in December 2010 when the Japanese fighter was the WBO world bantamweight champion and Butler was competing for the four belts. In a hard-fought match, Butler succumbed to Inoue’s punches in the 11th round, resulting in a TKO defeat.

Butler emphasized that although Fulton holds a slight advantage in terms of height and reach, Inoue has already proven himself against taller opponents. In particular, Butler highlighted Inoue’s victory over WBA world bantamweight champion, Jamie McDonnell, in May 2018. Despite McDonnell’s taller stature and longer reach, Inoue secured a TKO win in the first round within 1 minute and 52 seconds.

Butler asserted that Inoue’s speed, explosiveness, and technical prowess make him a formidable opponent. He acknowledged that when facing Inoue’s punches, one truly feels their impact. In terms of his prediction for the match, Butler believes Inoue will defeat Fulton in the 8th or 9th round, thanks to Inoue’s exceptional power advantage.

It is clear that Inoue’s previous accomplishments and skill set have garnered respect from his peers, including Paul Butler, who is optimistic about his chances against Fulton. Fans and boxing enthusiasts around the world eagerly await this super bantamweight clash, eagerly anticipating the outcome that can potentially solidify Inoue’s status as a true boxing icon.

“There’s nothing Inoue hasn’t experienced before.”

Inoue will take on WBC/WBO super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton (USA, 28) on July 25 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. In the first match when the class was raised from bantamweight to super bantamweight, suddenly match the fist with the united champion of the two groups. Inoue and Fulton won every round, and it’s a match that is attracting worldwide attention.

In the boxing media abroad, judges, coaches and active players are predicting the match and various opinions are flying. Under such circumstances, Butler referred to Inoue’s “monster” for the first time in the local British boxing media based on his own experience, and predicted the outcome of the Fulton match.

In December 2010, Butler competed against Inoue, who was the WBO world bantamweight champion in the same division (WBA, WBC, IBF) at the time, for four belts. From the start, he was passive and focused on boxing out, but was caught in the 11th inning and lost by TKO.

“Fulton has a slight advantage in terms of height and reach, but it’s something Inoue hasn’t experienced before,” Butler said, referring to the size difference between Inoue and Fulton. Inoue highlighted the fact that he fought WBA world bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (UK) at World War in May 2018 and won once by TKO.

“Inoue is too fast, explosive and technically good.”

At 175cm tall and 182cm reach, McDonnell was significantly taller than Inoue (165cm) and reach (171cm). Despite the physical difference, Inoue won by TKO in 1 minute and 52 seconds in the first round.

Butler said, “There’s nothing wrong with a super bantamweight,” even though there was a size difference with Fulton. “For Fulton, Inoue is too fast, explosive and technically superior. Inoue is a special fighter. When I get hit by Inoue, I feel it.”

Regarding the match prediction, he said, “I think Inoue will catch Fulton in the 8th or 9th round.” Just one second is enough. That’s Inoue’s power advantage.”
