A leaked Xbox Store listing has revealed the substantial storage requirements for Forza Horizon 6, indicating that the upcoming open-world racer will demand significant SSD space on both console, and PC. The leak, which surfaced on May 1, 2026, suggests a massive increase in the game’s footprint compared to previous entries in the series.
According to the leaked data shared by the account @ForzaLeakz on X, Forza Horizon 6 requires 144.84 GB of storage on Xbox Series X|S and 156.65 GB on PC. These figures represent the base installation size before the addition of any day-one patches, updates, or downloadable content.
A Growing Storage Trend
The installation size of Forza Horizon 6 marks a steep climb in the series’ technical requirements. For comparison, Forza Horizon 5 launched with a footprint of 103 GB on both PC and next-generation Xbox consoles. Further back, Forza Horizon 4 required approximately 63 GB on Xbox at its launch.
While Forza Horizon 6’s starting size is significantly larger, it has not yet reached the peak size of its predecessor. Reports indicate that Forza Horizon 5 eventually grew to exceed 170 GB after several years of expansions and content updates. Given the base size of the new title, industry analysts suggest it will likely surpass that total once post-launch content is released.
Ambitious Scale and Technical Fidelity
The increased storage demand is largely attributed to the game’s setting and ambition. Forza Horizon 6 is set in a fictionalized representation of Japan, featuring a sprawling open world that includes Tokyo and the surrounding countryside. The Tokyo City area is described as being five times larger
than any urban area featured in previous Horizon titles.
Beyond the map size, the game includes a massive roster of over 550 cars. The development also emphasizes high-fidelity audio and visual assets, including field recordings captured across all four seasons in Japan to enhance environmental immersion.
On PC, the game incorporates several high-end technical features that contribute to its size and performance profile, including:
- Enhanced ray tracing and global illumination.
- Uncapped frame rates.
- Support for Nvidia DLSS 4, AMD FSR 3, and Intel XeSS 2.1 upscaling technologies.
Release Timeline and Availability
Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled for a full release on May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will be available via the Microsoft Store and Steam, and will be accessible to subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day.

Players who purchase the Premium Edition will receive early access starting on May 15, 2026. While the initial launch focuses on the Xbox and PC ecosystems, a PlayStation 5 version is planned for release later in 2026, though a specific date has not been confirmed.
The game’s popularity is already evident in pre-launch metrics, as it claimed the top spot as Steam’s most-wishlisted title for May 2026. With the pre-load already appearing for some users on the Xbox PC app, players are now being encouraged to clear sufficient SSD space to accommodate the 156.65 GB installation.
