Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea, Yoon Seok-yeol of the People’s Power, Shim Sang-jung of the Justice Party, and Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party will decide whether they are male or female in a TV debate in the field of ‘politics’ on the 25th. Recently, as the approval ratings of Candidate Lee and Candidate Yoon have been competing in a very thin competition, a fiercer battle is expected.

The four presidential candidates from the ruling and opposition parties will participate in the second TV debate hosted by the National Election Commission at the Sangam SBS Prism Tower public hall for 2 hours from 8 pm on the same day. The topics of discussion are political fields such as ‘restructuring of power’ and ‘inter-Korean relations and foreign and security policy’.

Regarding ‘power restructuring’, the ‘political reform plan’ announced by the Democratic Party of Korea the day before is expected to be a major issue. With the main goal of ‘guaranteeing a practical multi-party system’ and constitutional amendment to the president’s power distribution, candidate Lee is expected to send love calls to candidates in the third zone, such as Gori Ahn and Shim.

Yoon’s response is also noteworthy. Depending on the circumstances, there is a possibility that he will agree with Lee’s political reform plan to some extent and face it with a counter-strategy of pushing forward with stronger content when he takes office.

Here, in a situation where ‘unification of opposition candidates’ is becoming difficult, what stances Lee and Yoon will approach toward Candidate Ahn and how Candidate Ahn reacts is a key point to watch.

In ‘Inter-Korean Relations and Foreign Security Policy’, the response to the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine is expected to be discussed. All candidates are expected to condemn Russia’s aggression and express their intention that the Korean government should actively participate in international sanctions.
