At the Dongfang Ranxing Basketball Hall of the Tianqiao District National Fitness Center, a unique basketball class is being held. The Fifth Jinan Campus Basketball Public Welfare Class, hosted by the Jinan Education Bureau, aims to accelerate the popularization of campus basketball, enrich students’ holiday life, and provide guidance from high-level coaches to students who like basketball.
Over 2,000 Young People Benefited from the Program
The event was held from August 8 to August 20 in various districts and counties. The Jinan Youth Campus Basketball Office selected high-level coaches to coach, and about 2,000 young basketball enthusiasts from 15 districts and counties experienced professional basketball training. The trainees focused on learning basketball knowledge and basic basketball skills under the professional guidance of the coach.
Wang Yong, deputy director of the Jinan Youth Campus Basketball Office, said that the event allowed many students who had not participated in basketball training to participate in basketball and feel the fun brought by basketball. “The children not only learned basketball skills and exercised their willpower, but also cultivated a sense of teamwork and enhanced their physical fitness.”

Jinan Campus Basketball is Booming
Campus basketball is a key project of education and sports integration promoted by the Ministry of Education. Since 2020, the Jinan Municipal Education Bureau has organized the “Jinan Campus Basketball Public Welfare Classroom” every summer. The event has been successfully held for five sessions and has been unanimously praised by leaders at all levels, teachers, students, and parents.
Song Yu, member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of the Jinan Education Bureau, said that in recent years, the Municipal Education Bureau has attached great importance to campus basketball. “Jinan City pioneered the most beautiful home court and midweek home and away system in the country, allowing the game to return to the campus, placing students in the center of the stadium, encouraging teachers and students to watch on site, and carrying out special cultural performances between games, giving full play to the educational function of sports.”
The Jinan Youth Campus Basketball Office also organized the 2024 Jinan Campus Basketball China-US International Exchange Summer Camp and Coaches and Referees Training Course. The summer camp lasted for 6 days and invited two high-level basketball coaches from the United States, Jeff Myers and Ainde Woods, to coach. Nearly 160 basketball coaches, referees, and 120 students in the city have experienced the training methods from the NBA level.
