[Frankfurt, 21st Reuters]-German energy regulators announced on the 21st plans to reduce the use of industrial gas in case the gas supply from Russia declines further.

A bidding system will be introduced within a few weeks to encourage consumption reductions, especially among manufacturers that use gas in high-temperature processes.

“We are in close consultation with industry and energy operators and will promote complementary measures,” officials said in a statement.

To maintain production in key sectors, the state will compensate companies if other sectors temporarily or long-term suspend production to reduce gas use.

The chemical industry, which has the largest gas consumption in the country, evaluated this measure as effective.
