Google Set to Introduce Custom CPU in Next-Generation Tensor G4 Processor

It is reported that Google will install a custom CPU in the next-generation Tensor G4 processor.

Google has teamed up with Samsung Electronics to introduce the tensor processor for the first time in the Pixel 6 2021 lineup. The first-generation tensor processor is based on the Exynos 2100 and has the same CPU and GPU configuration.

The Tensor G2 processor released the following year is also based on the Exynos 2200. In the case of the Tensor G3 processor released last year, the CPU configuration was changed to 1+4+4 and is manufactured using the 4-nano process by Samsung Foundry, a first for Google.

According to the latest report, the Tensor G4 processor that will be released this year will be based on the Exynos 2400, but will use Google’s CPU design. The Exynos 2400 chip has 10 CPU cores, but the Tensor G2 processor uses 8 cores.

Foreign media said: “If the report is true, Tensor G4 will be the first chipset in the Google Tensor series to be equipped with a custom CPU” and added: “It means that Google’s custom chip development has made considerable progress” .

The Tensor G4 processor is expected to be installed in the next-generation Pixel 9 and Pixel Fold 2 series, which Google will showcase at “Made by Google” this fall. Meanwhile, according to a previous report, Google is expected to contract the production of the Tensor G5 processor from TSMC instead of Samsung Foundry starting in 2025.
