Rockstar Games has officially scheduled the release of Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026. The action-adventure title, which serves as the eighth main entry in the series and the sixteenth will launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The game is set in the fictional US state of Leonida, a region based on Florida. This open world predominantly features the Miami-inspired Vice City, alongside other locations including Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys, Ambrosia, Port Gellhorn, and Mount Kalaga National Park. The narrative focuses on a romantic criminal duo named Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

According to available details, the game world is designed to parody American culture of the 2020s. This includes satirical depictions of influencer culture and social media, as well as modern law enforcement technologies such as police body cameras.

Development Timeline and Delays

The November 19, 2026, launch date follows a series of delays. A previous announcement on May 2, 2025, had set the release for May 26, 2026, but subsequent updates have pushed the date further back. Reports indicate this is the third delay for the project.

Despite the delays, marketing efforts are expected to ramp up soon. A February financial report from parent company Take-Two Interactive suggested that launch marketing is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026.

Internal developments regarding the game’s presentation continue, with a former artist noting that the visual quality is being madly polished and that the final product will differ from early footage.

Corporate Shifts and AI Integration

In a move that contrasts with previous corporate messaging, Take-Two has reportedly cut its AI team. This development contradicts earlier statements from the company regarding its embrace of artificial intelligence in game development.

The project has also faced scrutiny regarding its eventual pricing. In discussions regarding the development and cost of the game, the voice actor for the character Lester mentioned that even if the game were priced at $100, he still wouldn’t buy it.

Platform Availability and Feature Rumors

While the initial launch is confirmed for consoles, reports suggest that Grand Theft Auto VI may arrive on PC platforms in early 2027.

There is also speculation regarding the rollout of the game’s multiplayer component. Some reports indicate that the online mode may be delayed, with historical patterns suggesting players might have to wait approximately one month after the single-player launch to access it.

Additional gameplay rumors include the introduction of new user-generated content (UGC) mechanics that could allow players to accumulate wealth within the game, as well as the inclusion of a popular rapper in a cameo role.

  • Confirmed Launch Date: November 19, 2026
  • Confirmed Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
  • Setting: Leonida (including Vice City)
  • Main Characters: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos
