Hekuran Kryeziu Completes Move to Winterthur
Hekuran Kryeziu has officially joined Swiss Super League club Winterthur, the club announced on August 3, 2022. The Kosovan representative signed a contract with the club until 2024, arriving as a free player.
“Strengthening the defensive midfield: FCW signed Hekuran Kryeziu. The 29-year-old was last linked with FC Zurich and has signed a contract with us until 2024 after a temporary year in Winterthur,” the club stated.
Kryeziu brings significant experience to Winterthur, having played 224 matches in the Swiss Superliga across spells with FC Luzern (2011-2018), Vaduz (2014/15), and FC Zürich (2018-2021). He also has 19 appearances in the Swiss Cup and ten in the Europa League to his name. He has also been capped 27 times by the Kosovo A National Team, including ten appearances in World Cup qualifying matches.
The midfielder is a product of the FC Luzern academy, where he played 31 matches with Switzerland’s age groups. He maintained his fitness with various clubs during a period without a contract last season.
Winterthur expressed their welcome, stating, “We warmly welcome Hekurani to Winterthur and wish him all the best, lots of health, joy and success with FCW.”
Previous Stint and Recent Developments
Kryeziu previously had a trial with Winterthur in July 2022 before signing the two-year contract the following month. He made his debut with the Winterthur second team on August 13, 2022, in a 0-0 draw against Gossau. His first team debut followed on August 28, 2022, coming on as a substitute in the 46th minute of a 1-5 home defeat against Young Boys.
As of June 2, 2023, Kryeziu had played 23 games for Winterthur, providing two assists. However, the club announced on that date that they had terminated his contract by mutual agreement. Kryeziu’s contract with Winterthur had been set to run until June 2024.
Reports indicate that Kryeziu had been a key midfielder for the Kosovo national team for a considerable period, though his form had been inconsistent in recent years.
Managerial Role
As of today, February 4, 2026, Hekuran Kryeziu is the manager of the Kosovo national under-21 team. He was an assistant manager in 2025 before taking on the full managerial role.
Prior to joining Winterthur, Kryeziu signed a three-year contract with Zürich on May 31, 2018, which became effective in July 2018. He made his debut for Zürich on July 22, 2018, in a 2–1 home win against Thun, starting in the lineup.
