Historic Win: Hanamaki Higashi High School Makes Mark in Ihatov Hanamaki Tournament with Thrilling Women’s Baseball Victory
Hanamaki Higashi High School Wins 2nd Michinoku Coca-Cola Bottling Cup Ihatov Hanamaki Women’s Baseball Tournament
The final day of the 2nd Michinoku Coca-Cola Bottling Cup Ihatov Hanamaki Women’s Baseball Tournament was held on the 8th at Hanamaki Baseball Stadium in Hanamaki City, where Hanamaki Higashi High School won its first championship. In the semi-finals, they beat Tokai University 2-1, and in the finals they defeated Niigata University of Health and Welfare 5-3.
Rin Saito (1st year) of Hanamaki Higashi High School, who hit the first run in the final, was selected as the Most Valuable Player Shigeo Nagashima Special Award winner. She was presented with a list of custom-made gloves engraved with the Giants’ retired number 3 by her second daughter Mina, and the Hanamaki Higashi High School player with number 3 said, “I’m proud to receive this award. I want to have the school’s color purple and my favorite yellow engraved on my glove.”
The tournament took place over two days, with 12 high school and university teams competing across all age groups. Mizuki Sekiguchi (1st year at Tokai University), a graduate of Hanamaki Higashi High School, took the oath at the opening ceremony on the 7th. “I was able to go to university thanks to the training I did in Hanamaki, so I fought with gratitude. It’s been a while since I last played, and it was fun,” he said, looking back with a smile.
