Idukki Dam | Idukki Dam will have to be opened if heavy rains continue; Minister K Krishnankutty

Idukki: Power Minister K Krishnankutty has said that the Idukki dam will have to be opened if heavy rains continue in the state. An Orange Alert has been declared at Idukki Dam. Red Alert will be declared at 2397.86 feet. But the minister made it clear that he would not go into opening the dam too soon.

The minister said that they are trying not to open Idamalayar and Idukki together. The public will be notified 24 hours before the dams open. The storage capacity of Idukki Dam is 2403. KSEB officials and the minister said that they should not wait until it arrives.

It is learned that the dam will have to be opened if there is heavy rain for two days. The minister said there was no need to open the dam due to low rainfall at present.
