Indian hockey player PR Sreejesh emphasized the enduring significance of the name Bharat during the official send-off of the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games. While acknowledging the potential challenges posed by the transition from India to Bharat, Sreejesh stated that the name Bharat has always been deeply rooted in our culture.

“We always proudly proclaim ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. The word Bharat holds a special place in our hearts. It’s not an easy task to replace India with Bharat,” Sreejesh expressed.

Recognizing the familiarity with the name India that has been established over the years, Sreejesh admitted, “The new name might feel a bit unfamiliar to me. However, it will present a novel experience for our younger generation. They will adapt to it. But the transition from India to Bharat will undoubtedly be a challenge.”

The official unveiling of the Indian team’s uniform and player kit took place during the event. Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur conducted the release of the ceremonial attire. PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia graced the occasion by donning the official attire. Additionally, the team received an official send-off from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), led by IOA President PT Usha.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has joined the conversation by advocating for a name change in the Indian cricket team’s jersey to Bharat. Sehwag believes that this alteration is necessary, starting from the ODI World Cup in India, and has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take the lead in implementing it.
