Indian Premier League’s Second Leg Possibly to be Held in UAE: Reports suggest franchises ask players for passports

New Delhi: The venue for the second leg of the Indian Premier League could be the UAE. According to reports, the IPL franchises have asked their players to submit their passports. With this, the news is spreading that the second phase of the IPL will be held in the UAE. There is no official confirmation about this.

Talks are on to move the tournament out of India as the Lok Sabha elections are underway. IPL has been held in UAE twice before. The BCCI has held the first half of the IPL in the UAE due to the general elections of 2014. Later in 2020, the tournament was held in the UAE due to the increase in covid cases in India.

At the moment, only the schedule for the first 15 days of matches has been announced. IPL Governing Council Chairman Arun Dhumal said that the list of remaining matches will be decided after the Lok Sabha election date is announced.

Although the first half of the IPL schedule was announced on February 22, the BCCI could not take the next steps as the Lok Sabha election dates were not announced. At the same time, the commission had announced that the Lok Sabha election dates would be announced on Saturday. After this, a clear picture of the schedule for the second half of the IPL will emerge.

IPL 2024 will begin on March 22 with an action between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The opening match will be played at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The last match of the first leg between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans will be on April 7. After that the IPL is likely to shift to UAE after a short break.
