Volcanic Activity and Official Response
Located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, Anak Krakatau remains at Level III, or Siaga (Alert), status. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) maintained a strict three-kilometer exclusion zone around the active crater following the weekend activity. Berton Panjaitan, acting head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, urged residents along the coast not to panic. Authorities also asked the public to avoid approaching the volcanic area for observation, photography, or video recording due to ongoing ejection risks.
Tsunami Concerns and Geological Assessments
The renewed activity prompted concern among coastal residents in Banten and Lampung due to memories of the deadly December 22, 2018 tsunami triggered by the volcano. However, the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) assessed that the volcano’s regrown edifice remains relatively small. According to geological assessments cited by officials, the current structure is not considered capable of collapsing on a scale that could generate a tsunami.

Monitoring Equipment and Seismic Data
Field surveillance equipment sustained direct damage during the sequence. Officials reported that a surveillance camera was knocked out of commission after being struck by ejected volcanic material.
