IndyCar: McLaren renamed “Arrow McLaren” from 2023[F1-Gate.com]

McLaren’s IndyCar team, Arrow McLaren SP, will shorten the team’s name to ‘Arrow McLaren’ from the 2023 season. The change removes the initials of co-owners Sam Schmidt and Rick Peterson, who sold 75% of r team to McLaren Racing in 2021.

While the ‘SP’ will be dropped from the team name, the roles of Sam Schmidt and Rick Peterson will remain the same, with both of them actively involved in the development of the three cars.

Founded by Sam Schmidt in 2001 as Sam Schmidt Motorsports, the organization has gone through more name changes than any other team. The team, which competed as Sam Schmidt Motorsport throughout the 2011 season, was rebranded as Schmidt Hamilton Motorsport in 2012. It was a tribute to Davey Hamilton and sponsorship from Hewlett-Packard allowed the team to race in full time in the series with new driver Simon Pagenaud.

Schmidt-Hamilton Motorsport ran until 2013, when Canadian trucking mogul Rick Peterson bought the team towards the end of the year, with Hamilton leaving the team and returning as he did Schmidt-Peterson Motorsport in 2014.

As Schmidt-Peterson Motorsport, the team competed until 2018 without a name change, but due to the increased involvement of Arrow Electronics, SPM became Arrow Schmidt-Petersson Motorsport for 2019. rice field.

Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports lasted one season. For 2020, the team became Arrow McLaren SP as McLaren Racing partnered with Schmidt and Peterson.

Arrow McLaren SP ran for three years until the 2022 season, but in a few weeks Schmidt’s former team will change its sixth name in over two decades.
