Santa Fe showcases new design and improved aerodynamics

The fifth-generation model of Hyundai Motor Company’s flagship SUV, the Santa Fe, is set to be released. Since its initial launch in 2000, the Santa Fe has sold an impressive 1.4 million units in Korea alone. The latest model showcases a significant change in design, making it almost unrecognizable compared to its predecessor.

New Design, Dull Masculine Beauty

Hyundai Motor Company has completely revamped the Santa Fe, introducing a truly transformed model. After five years since the previous generation’s release, the fifth-generation Santa Fe showcases a design that exudes a dull yet captivating masculine beauty.

Unconventional Design for Individuality

In an effort to break free from the conventional and simplistic design that lacks individuality, Hyundai Motor Company has taken a bold approach to alter the Santa Fe’s appearance. From the distinct headlamps reflecting the Hyundai Motor Company H logo to the sleek, tight front grill reminiscent of an electric car, every element of the new Santa Fe’s design has been carefully considered. The boxy rear design, with its straight lines, adds a unique touch to the overall personality of the vehicle.

However, the new Santa Fe does not sacrifice performance for style. It boasts a powerful engine that offers impressive agility and fuel economy, with a drag coefficient of 0.29. This places it ahead of most sedans and SUVs in terms of aerodynamic efficiency.

A Focus on Safety and Balance

Hyundai Motor Company has prioritized the safety of the new Santa Fe, ensuring a balanced and stable driving experience. Despite an increase in overall length, the front overhang has been reduced to maintain excellent maneuverability. Additionally, the vehicle now features 21-inch tires, reflecting the latest trends and enhancing overall balance and completeness.

Elongated Tailgate and Hidden Features

In a departure from conventional designs, the new Santa Fe features a vertically extended tailgate, creating a unique visual appeal and providing easy access to the spacious trunk. This design offers a cool and open feeling whenever the trunk is opened.

For individuals who enjoy car camping and adventure, the Santa Fe incorporates small yet thoughtful details. Hidden on the C pillar, which forms part of the car’s skeleton, is a camper handle. This feature allows for easy attachment and removal of camping equipment, making the Santa Fe the perfect companion for outdoor enthusiasts.

A Genuine SUV Sensibility

Simon Rothby, Senior Vice President of Hyundai Styling, emphasizes that the new Santa Fe aims to embody a genuine SUV sensibility. Unlike urban crossover vehicles, the Santa Fe exudes a rugged and adventurous spirit, making it the ideal choice for those seeking an authentic SUV experience.

A Focus on Gasoline and Hybrid Models

The new Santa Fe will be available exclusively as a gasoline and hybrid model. There will be no diesel variant, aligning with tax specifications. This decision reflects Hyundai Motor Company’s commitment to sustainability and the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles.

[앵커] The 5th generation model of Hyundai Motor Company’s flagship SUV model ‘Santa Fe’, which has sold 1.4 million units in Korea alone since the release of the first generation model in 2000, will be released.

Compared to the previous model, “Isn’t it a completely different car?” The design has changed significantly.

Hyundai Motor Company aimed for outdoor style with ‘Santa Fe’.

[기자] Hyundai Motor Company has released a completely changed model of Santa Fe. This is the 5th generation model that appeared 5 years after the release of the previous generation.

[스탠딩] Looking at the new Santa Fe, the first impression is that it has a dull masculine beauty.

[기자] To escape the disadvantage of lack of individuality with a simple design, we tried to change the design unconventionally.

From the headlamps that reflect the Hyundai Motor Company H logo to the tightly closed front grill like an electric car… In particular, the boxy rear design that falls in a straight line is add to the individuality.

As such, it’s a Santa Fe with a huge body to have its own personality both inside and out, but there’s no lag in running.

[씽크] Yu Won-ha / Hyundai Motor Asia Vice President: The 5th generation ‘The All New Santa Fe’ creates a unique silhouette with a long wheelbase and wide tailgate in harmony, based on a strong image of a boxy shape.

[기자] It is not simply designed for beauty.

Most sedans show a value of 0.3, and SUVs show a coefficient of air resistance of 0.35, but the new Santa Fe boasts agility and fuel economy when driving with 0.29.

[씽크] Hong Jeong-woo / Hyundai Motor Company Project MLV 7 Team Leader : Although the amount of money has increased, the length of the front overhang has been reduced to ensure rotational safety.

In addition, tires were previously 20 inches, but increased to 21 inches to reflect the latest trends and improve the balance and completeness of the vehicle.

[기자] In the case of other models, the majority of the tailgate is in the form of a horizontally placed angle, but the new Santa Fe is extended vertically at an angle close to 90 degrees.

This way, when the trunk is opened, the wall itself opens as if cutting a cake, giving a cool and open feeling.

[스탠딩] There are also designs with small considerations for those who enjoy car camping by putting a tent on top of the car body these days.

Among the A, B, and C pillars that make up the skeleton of a car, there is a camper handle hidden on the C pillar.

[씽크] Simon Rothby / Senior Vice President of Hyundai Styling: The first generation Santa Fe was a model that extended the axis of an open-air SUV into the urban space.

However, this time, on the contrary, through the new Santa Fe, we want to move from the urban SUV to the outdoors.

Not an urban CUV, but with a genuine SUV sensibility.

[스탠딩] The new Santa Fe will be released as a gasoline and hybrid model only, without a diesel model that has entered the tax specification.
