An Israeli company has recently developed a 3D printed steak, combined with cell culture technology, and successfully made one of the largest “cultivation steaks.” Technicians take samples from the umbilical cord tissue of the calves for differentiation and cultivation, without the need to slaughter any cattle. This 3D printed steak weighs 104 grams, which is different from most previous printed vegetable steaks. It is 100% real beef. MeaTech 3D, an Israeli start-up company that developed the steak, stated that it must first take a sample from the umbilical cord tissue of the calf, and then isolate the stem cells from the umbilical cord tissue, and then use the stem cells as “seeds” to differentiate and cultivate in the incubator. “The muscle cells and fat cells needed for the steak are produced, and finally the printing material is created. 3D printing technology is used to print the shape of the steak. After a period of time, the cells will form muscle tissue, and the texture of the steak will be truly achieved.
Researchers pointed out that 3D steak is expected to be available to the market, and the technology is now being improved to try to grow pork and chicken. They also stated that during the development of steak, all cows or calves will not be harmed and no slaughter is required.
