According to Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Airport, a total of 125 flights, including 120 domestic flights and 5 international flights, were delayed that afternoon. In addition, as of 4:00 p.m., 40 domestic flights (22 departures, 18 arrivals) to and from Jeju Airport were canceled or canceled in advance.

The reason for the disruption to the flight that day was that thick fog from the sea flowed into Jeju Airport.

The Jeju Airport Meteorological Observatory issued a low visibility warning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition, a special cloud warning was issued from 10 am to 3 pm.

A special report on cloud height (cloud height) is issued when the cloud height, which is divided into 10 stages, is generated or predicted to be below the standard value agreed upon by the relevant agencies. On this day, the lowest ST clouds (mountain fog clouds) were observed at Jeju Airport.

Because of this, a ceiling alert, which takes effect when the cloud height is low to 100 feet and poses a threat to the safe operation of aircraft, was issued, causing great difficulties in take-off and landing, such as turning back 9 planes that were scheduled to arrive at Jeju Airport.

An airport official said, “As there may be disruptions to aircraft operations due to sea fog, users are requested to check flight information in advance.”
