Karoline Leavitt Named White House Press Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Karoline Leavitt as his White House press secretary. At 27 years old, she will be the youngest person to hold this position in history. The previous youngest press secretary was Ronald Ziegler, who took the role at age 29 in 1969.

Trump praised Leavitt for her work as his campaign press secretary, stating, “Karoline did a phenomenal job… I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium.” Leavitt expressed her gratitude on X, saying she is “humbled and honored.”

As press secretary, Leavitt will be the public face of the administration and is expected to conduct daily briefings. Trump disrupted traditional press norms during his first term, often acting as his own spokesperson and communicating through social media and rallies. He mentioned that the new administration would likely offer more press briefings.

Leavitt hails from New Hampshire. She previously worked for MAGA Inc., a super PAC supporting Trump, and attempted a congressional run in 2022, winning the Republican primary before losing to a Democratic incumbent. During Trump’s first term, she served in the White House press office and was a communications director for Rep. Elise Stefanik.

In the past, Trump’s press secretaries have had varying approaches to media relations. Some engaged in disputes with reporters, while others, like Stephanie Grisham, did not hold briefings at all. The expectation for Leavitt is that she will provide strong and clear communication as they work to “Make America Great Again.”
