Comment from Director Kevin Muscat

“First of all, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be responsible for this special club. This next Wednesday will be our last game as a member of the Marinos family.

There are many people I would like to thank. A big thank you to Chairman Takayuki Hata, President Akihiro Nakayama, former President Ryoji Kurosawa, all executives, partners and sponsors, and the hometown residents of Yokohama City, Yokosuka City, and Yamato City for your tremendous support so far. Thank you very much. I would also like to express my thanks to the team management staff, the coaching staff, the medical staff, and all the staff involved with the club who supported me by my side.

Thank you very much for your warm welcome over the two and a half years since I came to Japan. I also want to express my gratitude to the players who expressed what I wanted on the pitch. I think his daily efforts and attitude are truly amazing. They were examples of attacking football, collecting points and goals, and playing exciting football.

Finally, let me say this. The most important thing for any club is the fans and supporters. I can’t imagine how much your support has helped me. We created unforgettable memories together. I feel very sad to leave the Marinos family, but I wish Yokohama F. Marinos good health and success with the best memories in my heart. Thank you very much for the last two and a half years.” “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Comment from Akihiro Nakayama, CEO of Yokohama Marinos Co., Ltd.

“Manager Kevin Muscat has quit his job as manager of Yokohama F. Marinos and will aim for a new challenge. Since taking over as coach of Yokohama F. Marinos in the middle of the 2021 season, Coach Muscat has further deepened the attacking football of Yokohama F. Marinos and helped them grow into a team that consistently competes for victory in the League J1.

In addition, in the 2022 season, they achieved their fifth J League championship for the first time in three years, leading all the Marinos families to the greatest happiness. We would like to express our gratitude to Coach Muscat for his many achievements, and we would like to continue to play deeper attacking football and continue to be a club that can make dreams and vitality come true for everyone.

It was a difficult decision for the club to make, but after repeated discussions, the club respected Coach Muscat’s wishes and reached an agreement. As the Marinos family, we would like to support Coach Muscat in his new challenge. We hope that our fans and supporters, our partners and sponsors, the hometown residents of Yokohama, Yokosuka and Yamato, and everyone else involved will understand Coach Muscat’s decision and the club’s decision.”
