Bogotá (AP) — The former Capo of the Medellín Cartel, ⁢Carlos Lehder, who arrived in Colombia more than 30 years after being extradited, remained on Saturday ⁢awaiting a judge’s decision regarding his legal situation⁣ after being taken into police custody upon his arrival, his defense said.

His lawyer, Sondra Maccollins, told The Associated Press that the capture order issued in 2017 ⁢“is without validity” and that ⁣a 24-year jail sentence issued decades ago⁣ for drug trafficking and illegal carrying of arms, from which the prison order is derived, “is prescribed.”

Maccollins stated that a judge⁣ must define the legality of her⁢ client’s retention in a⁤ hearing, “as there are ⁤no pending causes. We hope to resolve his legal situation in the‍ next few days.”
