Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, who met with young social workers, pointed out that Korea’s suicide rates for the elderly and youth are among the highest in the OECD, which is a shadow of a country with poor welfare.

Candidate Lee emphasized that strengthening welfare is essential for alleviating polarization and creating a fair society, and that improvement in distributive justice will lead to inclusive growth.

“The poor people and the people who give a lot of welfare support make the people lazy. This is what they actually said, politicians. Because of this absurd mind…”

Candidate Lee previously pledged to improve the student loan system through Facebook as well. He said that undergraduate students would be able to use ‘student loans repaid after employment’ without restrictions, and that he would expand the target to general graduate students and law school students.

People’s Power Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, who attended the broadcast reporters club debate, repeatedly denied the opposition party’s request for a TV debate, saying that it was intended to cover up allegations raised by the opposition.

“It is a difficult attitude to take as an opposition candidate to accept this kind of politically offensive debate proposal that is trying to get out of the water…”

Regarding the criticism from some that his wife Kim Gun-hee’s apology to the public was insufficient, he said, “I’m not sincere in my evaluation of whether an apology was sufficient or not,” he said.

Regarding the conflict with Chairman Lee Jun-seok, Candidate Yoon indirectly pressured the return of his predecessor, saying, “I will know my role as party leader well, and it will affect my political life in the future.”
