Malayalee R. Harikumar to head Navy Indian Navy | Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar

New Delhi: Vice Admiral R Harikumar will be the next Chief of Naval Staff. Harikumar hails from Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram and has been with the Navy for 39 years.

He will take up his new post on the 30th of this month, the defense ministry said. Harikumar took over as the Command-in-Chief of the Mumbai-based Western Ghats Naval Command in February this year.

Harikumar, who joined the Indian Navy from the National Defense Academy in 1983, also captained five warships, including INS Nishank, INS Kora, INS Virat and INS Ranveer.

He studied at the University of Mumbai, the US Naval War College and King’s College London. The country has honored him with the Param Vishishta Seva Medal, Ati Vishishta Seva Medal and Vishishtha Seva Medal.
