Turma da Mônica should soon also become a group for the elderly. To CNN Brasil, cartoonist Maurício de Sousa says that it is in his plans to include this new phase in his drawings.
“It’s a subject that keeps me awake at night. I’m planning a [história da] Turma da Mônica adult and, depending on the case, I will also create an Turma da Mônica elderly. Why not? Many seniors today have already read the class, remember the stories and tell their grandchildren”, she said.
The author, who is running for a place at the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL), celebrates the 60th anniversary of the adventures of friends from the Limoeiro neighborhood.
He said that the plans for this “new phase” would be to portray the stories with new reflections. “The stories are still in the oven and we are being very careful, because we know that we are going to deal with a very sensitive people. And I really want Turma da Mônica Elderly to be cheerful, optimistic, and bring new stories, interesting ideas”, he reported.
“Older people have lived longer and like to tell stories. My grandmother Dita, for example, would tell me a little story every night, and also to the street children”.
