Sergio Aguero: Kylian Mbappe Alone Can’t Guarantee Real Madrid’s Champions League Title
Retired Argentine football star Sergio Aguero has expressed his doubts about Real Madrid’s chances of winning the European Champions League with the inclusion of French striker Kylian Mbappe.
Aguero, who played for Manchester City and Barcelona, believes that while Mbappe is a world-class player, he alone cannot guarantee Real Madrid’s victory in the tournament. “It’s not easy for Real Madrid to retain the championship title this time, even with the inclusion of a world-class striker like Mbappe,” Aguero said.
Aguero thinks that Mbappe could be the next top scorer in the Spanish league, but emphasized that one player alone cannot make the difference in the Champions League. “The group makes the difference,” he said, highlighting that many clubs are eager to win the tournament and will fight to achieve it.
The current edition of the Champions League has seen significant changes, including an increase in the number of participating clubs to 36 teams and the addition of a round-trip match for teams ranked 9 to 24. Aguero acknowledged that these changes make the tournament very difficult and that it will take time to get used to the new system.
Aguero, who was forced to retire from football due to a heart problem, also reflected on his own short-lived experience with Barcelona. He appeared in only four matches before announcing his retirement.
Mbappe, a world champion with France, has yet to win the Champions League despite being one of the top players in the world. He has played for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, but has not won the tournament, including a loss in the 2020 final to Bayern Munich.
