Bandung – Meta is stepping into the future of wearable technology with the official introduction of three new AI-powered smart glasses, including the groundbreaking Ray-Ban Display. This innovative device marks Meta’s first foray into smart glasses equipped with an augmented reality (AR) screen.
Donning the classic Wayfarer design, the Ray-Ban display cleverly conceals its elegant technology. Within its seemingly ordinary frame lies a powerful combination of cameras, speakers, and microphones, all working in concert to enhance your everyday experience.
The magic lies in the small, luminous-colored screen embedded in the right lens. This screen projects text, images, and even video calls directly into the user’s field of vision, appearing as if floating just below the eye line. Remarkably, this display is only visible to the wearer, ensuring privacy and a personalized experience.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself unveiled the Ray-Ban Display at the recent Meta Connect event, emphasizing the unique potential of glasses as an AI interface.”Glasses are the only form of device that allows AI to see what you see, hear what you hear, so that you can produce what you want to produce, such as images or videos,” Zuckerberg explained, as quoted by the Guardian.
A Deeper Dive into Ray-Ban Display’s Features
Beyond the AR screen, the Ray-ban Display boasts a range of impressive features. Touch panels on the arms provide intuitive control, mirroring the functionality of previous Ray-Ban smart glasses.Meta has also introduced a “neural band,” a waterproof wristband that reads electrical impulses in the forearm, enabling hand gestures like knocking, rubbing,or turning to control the interface. Looking ahead, Meta plans to introduce finger-based writing in the air by the end of the year, further expanding the device’s capabilities.
Connectivity is key, and the Ray-ban Display seamlessly integrates with Meta applications like WhatsApp and Instagram via Bluetooth. Users can effortlessly read messages, make video calls, translate conversations in real-time, play music, and even use the screen as a viewfinder for capturing photos. The battery offers up to six hours of mixed use and can be recharged for a total power of 30 hours.
Pricing and Availability
The Ray-Ban Display is slated to hit the US market on September 30, 2025, with a price tag of $799. Following the US launch, the glasses will become available in the UK, France, Italy, and Canada in 2026.
