Mission 300 is a joint effort led by the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank Group with the enterprising goal of connecting an additional 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030. It represents a significant step towards universal energy access on the continent.
New energy compacts Unveiled
On Wednesday, seventeen African countries unveiled their National Energy Compacts in New York, during an event held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum. This brings the total number of countries that have finalized their compacts to twenty-nine.
These compacts are thorough, data-driven documents outlining specific targets, policy measures, and resource commitments by African governments. They are designed to achieve the overarching objective of Mission 300, with a strong emphasis on country-led development and engagement with local communities and civil society.

Progress and Impact of the first Cohort
These new commitments build on the progress made by the first cohort of twelve countries, which unveiled their compacts in January 2025 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.That summit was attended by 48 national delegations, including 21 Heads of state and Government.
