Jordan Reports Monkeypox Virus Infection in Non-Jordanian Resident

Case Confirmed in 33-Year-Old Man with Stable Health Condition

The Jordanian Ministry of Health announced the emergence of laboratory results confirming a case of monkeypox infection in a non-Jordanian person living in the country.

The infected individual, a 33-year-old man, exhibited symptoms of infection in the form of acne (skin rash) and is currently being treated at Al-Bashir Hospital. According to Jordan’s Petra news agency, his health condition is stable.

Previous Cases and Global Outbreak

This is not the first reported case in Jordan, as a previous case was recorded on September 8, 2022. Routine procedures were followed, successfully preventing the spread of infection and curing the patient without complications.

Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of global concern due to the emergence of a new strain of the viral monkeypox disease. According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, over 14,000 infections, including a new strain of the monkeypox virus, have been recorded in Africa this year. A recent outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has resulted in 548 fatalities since the beginning of the year. Additionally, Mbox A strains have been identified for the first time in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Kenya.
