Elon Musk’s Drug Use Aligns With Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Mental Health Views
Elon Musk’s approach to health, notably his reported recreational drug use, shares some common ground with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s views on mental health treatment. A recent new York Times report detailed Musk’s alleged use of various substances, including psychedelics and ketamine.
Musk has previously stated that he uses small amounts of ketamine to manage depression. However, the Times reported that his intake includes mushrooms and ecstasy, allegedly causing bladder issues. This comes after Musk’s 130-day stint in an official government advisory role.
Kennedy has publicly endorsed alternative treatments like ketamine over traditional psychiatric drugs for managing mental health disorders. He has criticized the use of SSRIs, even falsely linking them to school shootings. During his 2024 presidential campaign, Kennedy proposed “wellness farms” to help people wean off prescription drugs, advocating for regulated use of psychedelics.
While some studies suggest minimal use of ketamine and MDMA can effectively treat certain symptoms, psychiatric treatments are not one-size-fits-all.SSRIs have proven beneficial for millions. The Times reported that Musk uses a daily medication box containing about 20 pills, including Adderall.
“If you’ve used to much ketamine, you can’t really get work done, and I have a lot of work,” Musk said in 2024 to Don Lemon.
What’s next
The convergence of Musk’s reported drug use and Kennedy’s advocacy raises questions about the role of unconventional treatments in mainstream healthcare and the potential risks and benefits of such approaches.
