Netanyahu’s Diplomatic Faux Pas: Gulf Nations Unite in Condemning Israeli Leader’s Egypt Blunder
Gulf States Condemn Netanyahu’s Statement on Military Presence in Gaza
The Gulf states have strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement on maintaining a military presence on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, known as the “Philadelphia Axis”. The statement has been described as provocative and aimed at Egypt, distorting its image and obstructing mediation efforts.
Egypt, Qatar, and the US have been working together to broker a ceasefire in Gaza. However, Netanyahu’s statement has been seen as an attempt to undermine these efforts and justify aggressive and inflammatory policies, leading to further tensions in the region.
Saudi Arabia Pledges Solidarity with Egypt
Saudi Arabia has pledged its solidarity and support to Egypt in the face of Netanyahu’s accusations. The Saudi Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the “absurd” Israeli statements, warning of the consequences of these provocative statements and their impact on undermining mediation efforts.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry has reiterated the importance of ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and the need for concerted international efforts to enable them to achieve their inherent right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state along the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital.
Qatar and Kuwait Express Solidarity with Egypt
Qatar has expressed “full solidarity with Egypt” and rejected Netanyahu’s statement, which it sees as an attempt to mislead Israeli public opinion and hinder joint mediation efforts. Kuwait has also reaffirmed its position and solidarity with Egypt, calling on the international community and the Security Council to take action to stop ongoing violations and abuses by the Israeli occupation.
Oman Rejects Israeli Statements
The Sultanate of Oman has rejected Israeli statements about a “Philadelphia axis” in the Gaza Strip, warning of provocative consequences aimed at undermining mediation efforts.
Gulf Cooperation Council Supports Egypt
The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, has expressed solidarity and full support with Cairo against Netanyahu’s provocative statement. The Council has rejected such irresponsible statements, which do not serve peace in the region but rather contribute to raising tensions and worsening the situation.
The Secretary General has stressed the need for Israel to abide by international principles and signed agreements in Gaza and all Palestinian territories. He has also noted Egypt’s leading role in promoting regional and international stability through continued mediation efforts to achieve peace and a ceasefire in Gaza.
Arab-Islamic Movement
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has held phone calls with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the development of the situation inside the Palestinian territories. The calls have emphasized the need for all Arab and Islamic efforts to stop Israel’s continued violations against the Palestinian people.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has also held several phone calls with foreign ministers of Asian and African countries to strengthen Arab and Islamic work in support of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and to ensure the recovery of Palestine’s rights for the Palestinian people.
