April 2026 brings a wave of high-profile streaming releases across Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video, headlined by the final season of Amazon’s superhero satire “The Boys” and the return of Netflix’s Emmy-winning drama “Beef.”

The month marks significant milestones for several major franchises, with multiple series reaching their conclusions while others launch fresh seasons after extended hiatuses. Streaming subscribers will have access to new episodes of established hits alongside library additions spanning classic films and documentary content.

The Boys Concludes Its Run

Amazon Prime Video will launch the fifth and final season of “The Boys” on April 8, 2026. The dark comedy series, which satirizes corporate-sponsored superheroes and their unchecked power, has built a substantial following since its premiere. Showrunner Eric Kripke previously indicated he always intended to conclude the story around season five, according to entertainment industry reporting.

The series depicts a world where superheroes, known as “Supes,” are marketed by a powerful corporation called Vought and celebrated by the public like film stars. A group of outsiders led by William “Billy” Butcher, portrayed by Karl Urban, works to expose the dark machinations of these heroes and hold them accountable. The final season will bring the conflict between Butcher and his nemesis Homelander, played by Antony Starr, to its climax.

The franchise has expanded beyond the main series, with the spinoff “Gen V” launching in 2023. Prime Video has also ordered a prequel series titled “Vought Rising,” which will follow characters Soldier Boy, and Stormfront.

Beef Returns for Season 2

Netflix will release the second season of “Beef” on April 16, 2026. The anthology drama continues its format of exploring escalating conflicts between ordinary people, though Season 2 features an entirely new cast and storyline unrelated to the first season’s characters.

While the first season followed Danny Cho and Amy Lau through a road rage incident that spiraled into mutual destruction, the new season shifts to a country club setting. The cast includes Oscar Isaac as Josh, a manager and husband to Lindsay played by Carey Mulligan. Charles Melton appears as Austin, a fitness trainer, with Cailee Spaeny as his fiancée Ashley. Youn Yuh-jung portrays Park, the billionaire chairwoman overseeing the club.

Malcolm in the Middle Revival on Disney+

Disney+ will premiere “Malcolm in the Middle: Unfair wie immer” on April 10, 2026, continuing the story of the Wilkerson family approximately 20 years after the original series concluded in 2006. The revival arrives as a four-episode miniseries.

The new installment reunites most of the original cast, with Malcolm now married with a daughter of his own. According to the storyline, Malcolm has maintained distance from his family members, believing this separation allowed him to achieve stability. He returns home for his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary, bringing the family’s characteristic turbulence back into his life.

Frankie Muniz reprises his role as Malcolm, while Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek return as parents Hal and Lois. Some younger characters are portrayed by new actors, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark playing Dewey and Anthony Timpano as Jamie.

Additional Netflix Releases

Netflix has scheduled multiple releases throughout April 2026. “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” arrives on April 23, expanding the universe of the hit supernatural series. The platform also confirms new seasons of “Running Point” and “XO, Kitty,” with the latter’s third season launching April 2.

Film additions include “Transformers One” on April 9, “Joker: Folie à Deux” on April 18, and “Smile 2” on April 22. Documentary and reality content includes WWE events, boxing coverage featuring Tyson Fury, and various true crime titles throughout the month.

Disney+ and Amazon Prime Additions

Disney+ adds “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord” on April 6, along with “The Testaments,” a spinoff of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” on April 8. The platform also includes classic films such as “King Kong” and both “Mamma Mia!” movies arriving April 1.

Amazon Prime Video’s film lineup includes multiple James Bond titles arriving April 1, along with “The Dark Knight” trilogy components and “Dune” later in the month. Series additions include “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (all eight seasons) on April 20 and “Pam & Tommy” on April 27.

Industry observers note that April 2026 represents one of the stronger months for streaming content in recent quarters, with multiple flagship series reaching conclusion points while new seasons of established properties maintain subscriber engagement across platforms.
