At the announcement of his death on June 12, 2023 following a long illness, tributes poured in.
Maurice Kamto hailed the memory of a leader who would have influenced the political weather in Cameroon in his own way. “ Ni John Fru Ndi played a significant role in the unfinished struggle of the Cameroonian people to regain control of their destiny. I salute the memory of a singular, charismatic and courageous leader. May the land of our ancestors be light to him”wrote the leader of the MRC.
