nigeria and Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral trade and investment relations, exploring new areas of cooperation in energy, manufacturing, agriculture, health, and technology. This commitment was a central theme of the fourth edition of the Nigerian-Indonesian Investment and Trade Forum (NIITF) held in Jakarta, Indonesia, under the theme, “Unlocking Potentials and Building a sustainable Economic Future.”
the event, organized by the Nigerian-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI), brought together top government officials, diplomats, policymakers, and buisness leaders from both countries to discuss enhancing bilateral partnerships and fostering mutual growth.
Trade Growth and Key Sectors
The relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia has experienced ample growth in recent years. Trade volume has expanded significantly,rising from $1.73 billion in 2019 to over $6 billion in 2023 – a clear indication of renewed confidence and cooperation.
Mr. Ishmael Balogun, President of NICCI, encouraged Indonesian investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s key sectors, including:
- oil and Gas
- Renewable Energy
- Agriculture
- Fintech
- Mining
He highlighted that recent government reforms are making Nigeria’s investment landscape increasingly favorable.
Reciprocal trade Mission
To further strengthen commercial ties, NICCI announced a reciprocal trade mission to Nigeria scheduled for 2026. This mission aims to provide Indonesian businesses with firsthand insights into the Nigerian market and facilitate direct engagement with potential partners.
“NICCI has been repositioned from what was once a dormant chamber to a vibrant platform driving economic diplomacy and bilateral trade between Nigeria and Indonesia,” Balogun said.”Our focus is to build stronger commercial partnerships that translate into shared prosperity.”
Indonesian Viewpoint and Commitment
Ambassador Bambang suharto, the Indonesian ambassador Designate to Nigeria, praised NICCI for its role as “a credible bridge between governments and the private sector.” He reported that trade between the two countries reached $4.7 billion in 2023, with non-oil exports gaining prominence in the trade mix.
Indonesia remains committed to expanding cooperation in:

- Healthcare
Ambassador Suharto also encouraged Nigerian businesses to explore opportunities in Indonesia’s emerging markets.
“Indonesia is eager to collaborate with Nigeria in areas that promote sustainable development and mutual economic benefit,” stated ambassador Suharto.
