Tax Law Implementation Faces Court Scrutiny

The Federal⁣ Government of Nigeria is facing a legal challenge in⁤ the High Court of Justice ‍of⁣ the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) regarding⁢ the planned implementation of new tax laws scheduled for January 1, 2026. The Incorporated Trustees of‍ African Initiative for‍ abuse Public Trustees⁣ initiated the suit, seeking a court order to halt the implementation until a full hearing can be conducted.

Plaintiffs seek Interim Injunction

The plaintiffs filed an Ex Parte motion requesting an‍ interim injunction to prevent the ⁣government from proceeding with the new tax laws ⁤while the substantive suit is under ⁢consideration. They also requested the court prioritize a swift hearing and ⁢resolution of the core⁤ legal arguments.

Respondents Named in the Suit

The suit names several key entities as respondents, including the ⁢Federal Republic of ⁣Nigeria,⁣ the President⁣ of Nigeria, ⁤the Attorney General of the Federation, and the ⁢president of the ⁣Senate.
