Strategic Expansion into the Ecuadorian Snack Market
Grupo Nutresa, under the chairmanship of Jaime Gilinski, has finalized the acquisition of full control over Alcora, a Panamanian company and the primary investor in Productos Yupi. This move, announced through the Financial Superintendence, signifies a major expansion for the Colombian multinational food company into the Ecuadorian snack market.
The decision was made in conjunction with Alcora’s other shareholders, who approved a partial split of the company’s assets. Consequently, Grupo Nutresa now controls Alcora and all of its subsidiaries, including Productos Yupi SAS.
Timeline of the Acquisition
Grupo Nutresa initially announced its intention to assume control of Productos Yupi in June. This followed the signing of an agreement for the Transfer of Political Rights and the completion of a deal to capitalize 40% of Alcora, which holds 100% of the shares in productos Yupi. The initial decision to pursue this acquisition was made public in March of this year.
strengthening Grupo Nutresa’s Portfolio
This acquisition is expected to bolster Grupo Nutresa’s already extensive portfolio of over 60 brands across nine product categories. The consolidation specifically targets the snacks niche, a highly dynamic segment of the food consumption market.
Productos Yupi brings a strong brand presence with nine established snack brands to Grupo Nutresa’s offerings: Copelia, Yupi, Yupis, Loncheras, Mekato, Liza’s, Rizada, Golpe con Todo, and Tosti.
