Obstruction of boat campaign, two people fined

A traveling court has fined two persons named Vivek Kirtunia (65) and Al Amin Khan (27) for obstructing the election campaign of boat symbol in Chitalmari, Bagerhat.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Vedavati Mistry ordered the fine on Wednesday (December 27) around 4 pm. A fine of 2000 taka was collected from Al Amin and 1000 taka from Vivek Kirtuniya.

Fined Vivek Kirttuniya is the son of Madhusudan Kirttuniya of old Kalshira village of Sadar Union and Al Amin Khan of Charpara village. Son of Mujibur Khan.

It has been reported that Awami League candidate Sheikh Helal Uddin’s boat symbol was being miked on the road in front of Badar Sheikh’s house in Kalshira village of Sadar Union of the upazila on the occasion of the 12th National Assembly election. Al Amin Khan of Charpara village, Jafar Sardar’s son Masum Sardar, Karda Gazi’s son Jasim Gazi and Vivek Kirtuniya obstructed the campaign. Later people arrested Vivek Kirtuniya and Al Amin. Meanwhile, the other two ran away.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chitalmari Police Station. Ikramul Hossain said, ‘We immediately went to the spot after receiving the news of the election campaign being interrupted. Two people were fined by the mobile court. At present, the law and order situation there is normal.’

Chitalmari upazila executive officer and assistant returning officer. Asmat Hossain said, ‘It is not a political incident. Vivek Kirtunia and Al Amin Khan were fined for violating election rules. They were later released.’
