Opening Ceremony for Drama Filming Set “Angel Without Name” Held by PBS Thai

On July 4, 2023, PBS Thai, led by Mr. Somyot Kiataramkul, deputy director of the Public Broadcasting Organization of Thailand (Public Broadcasting Service of Thailand), in collaboration with Professor Dr. Ukrit Mongkolnavin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Peerayanukroh Foundation, held an auspicious ceremony to celebrate the opening of the drama filming set for “Angel Without Name” at the Peerayanukroh Foundation, under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra.

The event was directed by the highly skilled director, Wai Pathombun, renowned for his previous work on the drama “Plai Chuak,” which was broadcasted on Thai PBS in 2019.

Introducing Quality Actors and Addressing Social Issues

This time, the production team has brought together a talented cast, including Nest-Nisachon Siwthaisong, Plan-Rattawit Kitworalak, Phum-Nat Thephasadin Na Ayudhya, Sueb-Boonsong Nakphoo, Top-Napol Phrom Suwan, and Peak-Phimaphon Panitthamrong, to add fun and intensity to the story.

Mr. Somyot Kiataramkul expressed, “This play is not just a reflection of Dr.’s autobiography or personal pain. Instead, it aims to shed light on social issues within the state healthcare system and the importance of recognizing the contributions of women in various professions. We should provide them with special care just as Dr. Pian has done throughout his life. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Peerayanukroh Foundation for giving PBS Thai the opportunity to present this drama, which reflects the societal issues, particularly concerning state welfare and women’s rights.”

Winai Patomboon, the director, shared, “The challenge in this play lies in creating a realistic portrayal while striving to deliver the best performance.”

Nisachol Siewthaisong, the representative of the cast, stated, “I believe that all the actors have put in great effort in their preparation. We are excited to present ‘Angel Without Name’ on Thai PBS by the end of this year.”

Unveiling the Tale of a Pioneering Female Doctor

“Angel Without Name” is a period drama depicting the life of Dr. Khun Pian Vejbul, also known as “Mr. Pian,” the first female doctor to earn a Bachelor of Medicine degree in Infectious Diseases from the University of Paris in France. Upon her return to Siam in early 1937, female doctors faced numerous challenges and doubts surrounding their capabilities within Thai society. However, Dr. Pian remained steadfast in her dedication to treating patients with venereal diseases, displaying tremendous courage.

Additionally, she defied societal norms and disguised herself as a mother-in-law to provide medical assistance to critically ill prostitutes at a brothel known as “Blue House.” This act of compassion led to her being recognized as “The Blue House’s Mother of the Whores.”

Amidst family conflicts and the restrictions imposed on women during that era, Dr. Pian’s story embodies a struggle against prejudices and the introduction of modern medical practices. She tirelessly devoted herself to aiding the sick and marginalized members of society, irrespective of their social status. How will Dr. Pian’s medical methods fare? Witness the battle for countless lives in the play “Angel Without Name,” which will soon grace the screens on Thai PBS, channel number 3.
