As of 2 pm on the 25th, it was confirmed that about 21,000 people had signed the petition ‘opposing the pardon of Park Geun-hye’, which was registered on the bulletin board of the Blue House petition.

Earlier, on the 24th, the government announced a special amnesty plan for 3,094 people, including former President Park and former Prime Minister Han Myung-sook. It is expected that he will be released after 4 years and 9 months since he was arrested and imprisoned in the case of Gukjeong Nongdan on March 31, 2017.

Along with this decision, President Moon Jae-in said, “We must overcome the pain of the past and move forward into a new era. I hope that amnesty will become an opportunity for unity, harmony, and the beginning of a new era beyond differences of opinion or pros and cons. We ask for broad understanding and clarification of those who oppose the amnesty.”

However, in just one day, more than 20,000 citizens officially expressed their opposition to President Moon’s decision. The author of this article said, “The impeachment of Park Geun-hye is a splendid achievement and achievement of democracy in the 21st century achieved by the people of the Republic of Korea with candlelight. Under the Moon Jae-in administration, if Park Geun-hye is pardoned without even serving half of her sentence, it would be a betrayal, blasphemy, and deception to the people.”

In particular, opposition from progressive groups who led the candlelight vigils in relation to the amnesty of former President Park is striking. The KCTU plans to hold a press conference opposing the amnesty of former President Park in front of the Blue House fountain on the afternoon of the 27th.

In addition, on the 24th, the Solidarity for Participation pointed out that “a pardon is far from social integration and is based on political considerations ahead of the presidential election.” cannot be read as It is a bigger problem that President Moon Jae-in’s promises to the people have been damaged by this amnesty.”
