The U.S. Geological⁢ Survey reported that the ⁢earthquake occurred at 11:35 a.m. ⁣local time in ⁢the‍ Pacific Ocean.The epicenter was located 14 miles southwest of Callao, which lies west of Lima.

Police Col. Ramiro Clauco told RPP radio that a 36-year-old‍ man died ‍in northern Lima. He was “standing‍ outside his ⁣vehicle ⁣waiting for a‍ passenger” when a wall ⁣detached from the fourth⁣ floor of ⁢a building under construction ‍and fell, striking him in the head.

The Emergency ‍Operations Centre reported that the five injured individuals are receiving treatment in⁢ local hospitals. The agency also noted damage to roads and educational facilities.

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte is traveling to ⁣Callao to assess the aftermath, according to ⁢a statement from ⁤the presidency on⁤ X.
