New Factory to Produce A-29N Super Tucano Aircraft
Portugal’s Minister of Defense, Nuno Melo, signed a letter of interest on Friday, December 15, 2023, with Embraer President Bosco da Costa Júnior, outlining plans to establish a new aeronautics factory in Beja.
The agreement aims to install a facility capable of manufacturing A-29N Super Tucano aircraft.
The signing took place at OGMA in alverca during the delivery ceremony of the first five of twelve A-29N Super Tucano aircraft, representing a €200 million investment in modernizing the Portuguese Air Force.
Economic Impact and Production Goals
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defense, the new factory is expected to create qualified jobs with competitive wages, boosting the Portuguese economy and industrial sector.
Production will initially focus on meeting national defense needs, with potential expansion to fulfill demand from othre European nations.
Minister Melo highlighted the aircraft’s versatility, noting its new capability to conduct anti-drone combat missions in addition to its established ground attack role. He emphasized that the Air Force specifically chose the Super Tucano, with political decisions informed by technical evaluations.

Embraer currently operates two production units in Portugal at the Évora Aeronautical Industry Park, specializing in the manufacturing of composite and metallic structures.
