[ワシントン 29日 ロイター] – US House Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Mike McCall (Republican) said on Wednesday that the likelihood of conflict with China over Taiwan is “very high.”

In an internal memo, General Mike Minihan of the United States Air Force said that the United States will be at war with China within two years over Taiwan.

“I hope (Minihan) is wrong, but I think he’s right,” McCall said on Fox News Sunday.

If China cannot seize Taiwan peacefully, he said, “they will consider a military invasion. We need to prepare for that.”

He also pointed out that the failure of the Biden administration to pull out of Afghanistan gave the impression that it was weak, which could increase the possibility of conflict with China, saying, “There is a very high possibility of conflict between China and Taiwan and the Indo. -Pacific.’ he said.

Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, said on the same show that war with China was “not only inevitable, but highly unlikely.”

He said the United States needs to be in a position to prevent China from taking military action against Taiwan, but “I am confident that with the right approach, we can avoid conflict.”
