President Yoon Seok-yeol and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung will meet at 2pm today at the Yongsan Presidential Office.

The meeting between the two, the first since President Yoon took office in May 2022, will last about an hour in tea-chat mode, with conversation over tea, and could last longer depending on the situation.

Today’s meeting will be attended by three people from both sides, including Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok of the President’s Office, Hong Cheol-ho, Senior Secretary to the President, Senior Public Relations Secretary Lee Do- woon, the political committee of the Democratic Party Chairman Jin Seong-jun, the chief of staff of the party representative Chun Jun-ho and the chief spokesperson Park Sung-jun.

Previously, the Democratic Party introduced the “Corporal Chae Special Prosecutor Law, the Kim Kun-hee Special Prosecutor Law, and the People’s Livelihood Recovery Support Fund” as agenda items in a working meeting with the Office of the President held prior to this meeting, and ultimately agreed to proceed with holding the meeting without a pre-established agenda at the request of the Office of the President.

Representative Lee Jae-myung is expected to mention measures to restore people’s livelihoods, including the “livelihood recovery support fund of 250,000 won per capita”, a request for the president to refrain from exercising his veto and a change in government policy, such as the acceptance of the “Corporal Chae Special Prosecutor Law”.

The Office of the President is expected to present economic and public livelihood agendas, including issues related to healthcare reform.
