Preventing and Treating Hemorrhoids: Important Tips and Surgical Options

[메디컬투데이=김준수 기자] Hemorrhoids are a disease in which the tissue of the anus prolapses or expands, causing various symptoms. It occurs mainly due to causes such as overwork, living conditions that involve standing or sitting for long periods of time, pregnancy, increasing age, heredity and constipation.

Director Kim Ji-hoon of JS Port Surgery said, “With the recent arrival of warm spring weather, the number of hemorrhoid patients visiting the hospital with anal pain is increasing,” adding, “One of the causes is excursions”.

The inside of the anus is made up of complex structures, and among these, the venous plexus in an area called the anal cushion expands when it continually receives excessive pressure. The enlarged tissues and blood vessels eventually protrude from the anus and are called hemorrhoids.

Walking for more than two hours or climbing a mountain helps burn calories, but is not very good for anal health as it increases abdominal pressure and causes congestion. Director Kim emphasized the need to pay special attention to management, stating: “Since one of the factors causing the disease is increasing age, hemorrhoids may be common in middle-aged and elderly people from 50 years old to up, affecting one in two people, so more attention is needed.

So does this mean you shouldn’t go hiking? Not like that. It is best not to overdo it by hiking too frequently, and if you experience abnormal symptoms after hiking, it is important not to ignore them but to contact a proctologist to receive the appropriate treatment. In the early stages of hemorrhoids, symptoms such as ▲anal bleeding during bowel movements, ▲discomfort such as itching or bleeding in the anus, and ▲protrusion and retraction of anal tissue may appear.

If you go to the hospital immediately and receive treatment for this condition, the disease can be improved through conservative treatments such as medications, a high-fiber diet, and sitz baths. However, if the disease progresses and symptoms appear such as ▲ symptoms of protrusion and non-retraction of the anus ▲ a lump protruding from the anus that turns dark red, ▲ intense pain that makes daily life difficult, it may become difficult to improve with drugs alone conservative methods. In this case the disease must be treated by surgical treatment.

Representative surgical treatments include PPH surgery and hemorrhoidectomy. PPH surgery is a method of inserting an instrument called an automatic circular anastomosis device into the anus, cutting out the prolapsed tissue, and suturing the excised area. Because the surgery is performed in an area without sensory nerves, there is less pain and the recovery period is quick because there is less scarring. Hemorrhoidectomy is performed by having medical personnel carefully cut out the enlarged lump and then tying off the area.

Director Kim Ji-hoon stressed: “Since the pain, complications and side effects experienced by patients vary depending on the skill of the medical personnel performing the surgery and the amount of bleeding, patients should receive care from medical personnel doctor with qualified experience and competence”. .”

Even if hemorrhoids develop, most patients do not go to hospital and often ignore them. Finally, there are many cases where patients go to the hospital for treatment after the disease has worsened. To prevent the disease, you need to take care of your daily health and it is important to consistently exercise at a moderate intensity. without overdoing it and help blood circulation. If an illness occurs, it is advisable to go to a medical institution immediately rather than delaying the visit due to embarrassment or worry about getting sick.
