Renowned RSS and BJP Leader PP Mukundan Passes Away

Kannur, [Date]

PP Mukundan, a prominent leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), breathed his last yesterday morning at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. The 77-year-old leader was undergoing treatment for liver and lung diseases. His demise is mourned by the political fraternity and his followers alike. The cremation ceremony will be held today at 4 pm at the Kulangareth Tharavad crematorium in Manathana, Kannur.

Mukundan, who initially ventured into public life as an RSS activist, displayed unwavering commitment to his ideologies. He was no stranger to adversity, having spent 21 months in Viyyur and Kannur Central Jails during the Emergency in 1975. With the establishment of the BJP, he rose through the ranks to become the state general secretary and a member of the national executive committee. He tirelessly strived to garner public support for the party, aiming to carve a niche for it in the political landscape of a state dominated by left and right fronts.

In 2004, Mukundan assumed the role of BJP Temple Organization Secretary, which ensued as part of a failed political experiment between the Congress-Alliance and BJP. Serving in this capacity for three years, he subsequently distanced himself from active BJP-RSS engagement. While the RSS implored him to remain involved in their organization, he decided to retire from public life and returned to his hometown without accepting any further responsibilities. Additionally, he held the esteemed position of managing director of ‘Janmabhoomi’ twice. It is noteworthy that he remained unmarried throughout his life.

PP Mukundan’s demise marks the end of an era, and his contributions to the RSS and BJP will always be remembered. His determination and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire generations of political leaders.
