PS5 Home Page Refresh Now Rolling Out to Some Users

Sony has begun a phased rollout of a visual refresh for the PlayStation 5 home screen, modifying how users access games and digital services on the console.

The update reorganizes the primary dashboard to prioritize game libraries while moving ecosystem widgets into a separate navigation layer to streamline the user interface.

Changes to the Home Screen Layout

According to reporting from Push Square, the horizontal scrolling bar on the home page is now entirely occupied by PS5 and PS4 games. This change removes previous widgets from the main game list to provide a more focused view of the user’s software library.

The PS Plus and PS Store tabs, which previously occupied space on the main page, have been relocated to a secondary menu. This shift separates the gaming content from the storefront and subscription services.

Navigation and Accessibility

Users can navigate the new secondary menu using the L1 and R1 buttons on the DualSense controller. This allows for faster switching between the following sections:

• PS Store
• PS Plus
• Library
• Media

The Welcome page remains positioned at the start of the PS5 and PS4 games list. This new layout replaces the former toggle between games and media apps with the expanded menu options, which is intended to provide faster access to various apps within the PlayStation ecosystem.

Beta Program Distribution

As of April 6, 2026, the update is appearing for participants in the PS5 firmware beta program. PlayStation LifeStyle reported that the beta program allows Sony to test new system software features and gather player feedback to guide development before a global release.

Evidence of the redesign was first highlighted by Reddit user FSTGang, who shared a capture of the updated interface. Because the update is currently limited to beta testers, the final version of the UI may be subject to change based on user feedback.

While the refresh is not yet available to the general public, it is expected to roll out to all PS5 console owners in the coming months.

Technical Context

This UI refresh follows previous efforts by Sony to enhance the PS5 experience based on player feedback. On April 23, 2025, Sony released a system software update that introduced audio focus and the return of classic console designs for the PS5 UI.

The audio focus feature added accessibility options by providing presets to amplify specific sounds, such as low-frequency rumbling, character voices, or high-frequency noises like footsteps, when using headphones or headsets.
