Judge Rejects R. ⁣Kelly’s⁤ Bid ⁣for Prison Release

SPRINGFIELD, ill. – R&B singer R. Kelly’s plea to be released from prison was denied ⁢by a judge who‍ cited a lack of jurisdiction to consider his allegations. Kelly, 58, claimed federal prison officials conspired to have him murdered.

U.S. District Judge Martha M. Pacold scrapped scheduled arguments and issued a ruling, ‍refusing Kelly’s emergency request for home detention during⁣ a temporary furlough. Pacold is overseeing the R. Kelly prison situation.

Robert Sylvester Kelly is currently incarcerated in Butner, N.C., where he is serving time for child sex crimes and⁢ racketeering convictions stemming from cases in New York and Chicago. He is serving a 30-year sentence from New York and a 20-year sentence from Chicago concurrently.

Pacold stated that federal ⁣courts have limited ⁤power in these ‍cases. ⁣She ⁣systematically rejected the arguments for considering Kelly’s request.

‍ “Jurisdictional limitations must be respected even where, as hear, a litigant claims that the circumstances are⁤ extraordinary,” Pacold wrote. “Kelly has⁣ not identified any statute or⁤ rule that⁣ authorizes the court to exercise jurisdiction.⁣ Thus, the ⁤court cannot award relief in this⁢ case.”

Kelly alleged in court filings that prison officials sought out white supremacist leaders to kill him to prevent the disclosure of‍ facts damaging to the officials.he further‍ claimed⁢ he was placed in solitary confinement and given a medication overdose, requiring hospitalization and surgery for blood clots.

Pacold noted Kelly provided ‍no evidence to support his claims.Government lawyers dismissed his claims as a “fanciful conspiracy.”

Kelly, known for hits⁤ like “I ⁤Believe⁣ I Can fly,” was convicted in Chicago in 2022 on charges related to child sexual abuse images and enticement of minors. His ⁢previous appeals, including one to the U.S. Supreme Court, have been⁣ unsuccessful.
