According to a police statement released March 19, two off-duty officers were working as security when a fight broke out outside the DWNTWN nightclub.

Attorney Calls Videos “Disturbing”
Bret Royle, an attorney, described the videos as worrying
and disturbing,
saying they do not align with the police department’s account of the events.
Which policeman stays out of their arms, presence that violent act and does nothing? They did not give help or intervene to investigate or arrest the individual who witnessed to punch,
Royle said.
Royle represents a friend of Montoya who was present at the nightclub and shared the videos. He believes the videos raise questions about the fight, the actions of the security guards, and the police response.
The general public deserves to know the answer to those questions,
Royle stated.
Royle also expressed concern that no arrests had been made in connection with the assault on Montoya, despite his understanding that two other individuals were arrested at the scene for allegedly interfering with officers.
According to police, the two individuals arrested were shouting at officers while they were attempting to provide medical assistance to Montoya. They were arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, with one accused of slapping an officer.
Those agents witnessed how the security guard gave the coup. And they say they have no suspects, that they have not made any arrest in this case? It seems crazy to me,
Royle said.
DWNTWN nightclub is advertised as a Latin club. It operates in conjunction with The Grand nightclub.
Friends and family of Montoya held a vigil outside the club on March 20, placing candles, balloons, flowers, and signs demanding justice.
A waiter from The Grand stated that he was unaware of montoya’s death or the fight that occurred outside the club. The owners of the nightclubs have not responded to requests for comment.

Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky confirmed the security guard’s involvement in the fight but declined to answer questions about the brawl or the officers’ actions before and after Montoya was struck, citing the ongoing examination.
royle stated that the events are clear.
I see the two most importent acts for me…that violent cross blow…and then to that policeman watching him, not arranging him,

“he Never Hurt anyone. Never.”

He told me that everything was going to be fine…he trusts me,
he recalled. Now we prepare for your funeral.
He never hurt anyone, even with a word,
Parra said.
Carlos Herrera, Montoya’s stepfather, vowed to find answers.
We are going to get to the bottom,
Herrera said. Security, police, whoever has been.
Approximately 150 peopel dressed in black gathered for a vigil, lighting candles as they walked toward the DWNTWN nightclub.
It’s extremely hard for us. These last days are the most difficult of our lives,
said Montoya’s stepmother, Yuliana Galaz. The most important thing is to rest in peace…what happened is not right.
“My Son,My heart,My Child”
