Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez praises teammate Max Verstappen as “having skills not found in other F1 drivers.”
After deciding to demote Alex Albon to a reserve and development driver role in 2021, Red Bull Racing acquired Sergio Perez from outside the driver pool and placed him as Max Verstappen’s teammate.
Sergio Perez has proven to be a great reinforcement for Red Bull Racing and has extended its contract until 2024.
Considering how much he appreciates Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez seems to enjoy working as a team very much.
“Max is very good. He’s a very perfect driver. I think he’s definitely one of the best players in F1 history,” Sergio Perez told Fox Sports MX.
“For all reasons, if not the best, depending on how he was educated from the beginning.”
“He has skills that other F1 drivers don’t have. He has the ability to reach the limits from practice 1 to the end. It’s definitely a skill that other F1 drivers don’t have.”
Sergio Perez also believes that he and Max Verstappen are a very close match, and the difference is often due to a particular corner on a particular Grand Prix weekend.
“This year is already very comparable. The difference is always the corner where he or I work,” Sergio Perez added.
“It’s very good to work as a team at that level. It’s a level that demands quite a lot as a driver.”
Regarding the development of the Red Bull RB18, Sergio Perez feels that he is heading in the same direction as Max Verstappen, even though the car itself suffers from weight issues.
“We’re still struggling. We’re approaching the (weight) limit by a few kilograms, but we both still have cars on a diet,” Sergio Perez jokingly said.
“I give feedback every weekend, but usually Max and I are on the same line and I think we’re pushing the same thing in the same direction.”
Sergio Perez is currently in second place in the Drivers’ Championship, 46 points behind Max Verstappen, and has won the Monaco Grand Prix this season.
