Lil Kansai’s Fuga Onishi to Star in Musical Drama “My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece”

Lil Kansai’s Fuga Onishi is set to take the stage at CBGK Shibugeki in Tokyo, playing the lead role in the musical drama “My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece” from November 21st to December 1st. This marks his first leading role on stage.

About the Musical Drama

Based on Annabelle Pitcher’s classic children’s literature, “Goodbye, Spider-Man,” which won the Branford Bowes Award and the Betty Trask Award at the British Literature Awards, the musical drama is set in England after the September 11 terrorist attacks. Written by Maruichiro Maruo and starring Onishi in his first lead role on stage, this fresh musical drama explores themes of loss, family, and identity.

The Story

The story follows Jamie, a young boy who loses his older sister Rose in a terrorist bombing and struggles within his unbalanced family. Onishi plays Jamie, who finds solace in his Muslim classmate, Sunya. As Jamie navigates his new reality, he begins to question the world around him and the adults who are supposed to guide him.

Production Team

The musical drama is directed by Natsuki Chobi of the Deer Killer Theater Company, who studied abroad in Canada under the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Overseas Training Program for Emerging Artists in 2014. The screenplay is written by Maruichiro Maruo, and the production features a genre-defying cast and staff, including world-renowned dancer Shintaro Oue.

OFFICE SHIKA PRODUCE

OFFICE SHIKA PRODUCE is a company that seeks out outstanding creations in line with the theme of the time. This production is part of the “OFFICE SHIKA x Children’s Literature Series,” a step forward as Office Shika’s life work, along with their creative activities. The series features a selection of masterpieces of children’s literature that Natsuki has loved for many years, delivering an experience that can only be enjoyed at the theater, for both children and adults.
